Napali Sunset Sail
Sailing in the sunset off the coast of Kauai… sounds romantic, doesn’t it? Well yes, it can be very romantic. It can also be quite adventurous! Lucky for all of us, it’s usually a combination of both on our Napali Sunset Sail.
The Napali Sunset Sail is a convenient choice for anyone that’s up for a Kauai adventure but isn’t a morning person. So you want to wake up slow on your vacation and ease into the day—we don’t blame you! It just means you’ve got to plan some epic afternoon activities, and we’re here to tell you that the Napali Sunset Sail is an excellent option and a superb way to significantly upgrade your happy hour/dinner/sunset plans.
See, the only thing better than watching the sunset from the beach is watching the sunset from a gorgeous 50’ catamaran– so you can gaze at the beach and Kauai on one side and the sunset and the “Forbidden Island” of Niihau on the other, all at the same glorious time. That’s what you can expect on our Napali Sunset Sail!
As soon as we’ve thrown the lines and we’re exiting Port Allen Harbor, our crew members will offer you a cold beverage. We’ve got a little something on the drink menu for everyone including: domestic beer, Hawaii craft beers, hard seltzers, white, red, and sparkling, wines, and our signature Holo Holo cocktail—the Koloa Rum Mai Tai made with locally-produced spirits. We also have a selection of soft drinks, juices, and plenty of water— we promise you won’t go thirsty.
We also won’t waste any time busting out some snacks to enjoy before the main meal—meats, cheeses, crackers, and fresh veggies with roasted red pepper hummus and ranch dip.
The local trade winds, which typically blow from the east/northeast, lend themselves nicely to this afternoon journey on the world-famous Napali Coast. Typically, the first half is the more exhilarating part of the tour—as we motor upwind and along an absolutely incredible, must-see-to-believe 12-mile stretch of coastline boasting 4,000’ sea cliffs, sea caves, sea arches, cascading waterfalls, rainbows, spinner dolphins, Hawaiian sea turtles, turquoise waters, pristine beaches, and emerald valleys.
Your Captain will point out interesting geological features along the way and share historical facts and authentic stories and legends about Kauai and the enchanting Napali Coast, which was once home to a thriving population of tens of thousands of Native Hawaiians. Your crew members will be there to answer your questions, fill up your drink, help you to the bathroom, take your picture, and anticipate your every need.
When we’ve reached the Kalalau Valley and the incredible “Cathedrals” part of the Napali Coast (which looks like a computer-generated image), it’s time to turn about and begin the return to Port Allen. Heading downwind, conditions usually become more quiet, less bumpy, and more relaxing! The sun is getting low, the afternoon light is filtering through the peaks of the Napali Coast, and we’re all relishing in the “golden hours” of the day.
For dinner, we’re serving pineapple, garden greens with lemon/herb vinaigrette, Somen noodle salad, hapa rice, teriyaki chicken, and roasted veggies with tofu for our vegan and vegetarian guests. All our food, down to the dressings and sauces, are made fresh, using whole ingredients, by a local catering company called Rose and Bros. They work nearly around the clock to make food that’s colorful, delicious, easy to eat, and satisfying for all of our Holo Holo Kauai boat tours.
Heading downwind, chances are that your Captain will find a nice opportunity to hoist the sails and kill the motors, so we can enjoy the time-old sensation of traveling on the ocean by the power of the wind! It’s powerful, invigorating, and it especially doesn’t suck when you’re enjoying one of our Kauai Coffee Coconut Caramel Crunch Brownies!
As the sun begins its final melt into the horizon, we’ll make sure everyone’s topped up for a sunset toast. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for the “green flash” and then enjoy the afterglow and the views of Kauai as we cruise back into Port Allen.
Every day is unique and different out here on Kauai’s coasts but typically, our Napali Sunset Sail is part splish-splash, and part wine & dine. Whichever way it leans, this tour is sure to be breathtaking and smile-inducing. Treat yourself and your loved ones to an unforgettable afternoon aboard our clean and spacious catamaran, against *thee* most stunning backdrop Kauai has to offer.

We pride ourselves on creating fun and memorable ocean adventures for our guests. Your safety is our top priority; therefore, all tour routes, destinations, and snorkeling activities are dependent on ocean and weather conditions. If you are joining us during our winter season November – March, tours can be more often impacted by weather. Conditions around Kauai can change quickly, so our expert captains are constantly analyzing and may wait until check-in time to determine the best route for the day. If that occurs you will have the opportunity to go on the altered tour, reschedule to another day (availability permitting), or cancel your tour at no charge if it is weather-related. If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at 808-335-0815 so we can help create the best experience for you and your family!
